  Meeting and Workshop Opportunities

ABET holds many events for institutional representatives. Contact us if you would like more information about any of these events.

ABET Faculty Workshop on Assessing Program Outcomes
Participants will sharpen their assessment knowledge, broaden their understanding of continuous improvement processes, and learn new assessment tools they can implement when they return to campus. This workshop is interactive and faculty will work in small groups applying the concepts learned throughout the day. Participants will receive a workshop booklet containing all slides and reference materials.

Institute for the Development of Excellence in Assessment Leadership (IDEAL)
IDEAL provides a professional development opportunity for those responsible for leading their faculty in the development and implementation of a program assessment plan to improve student learning and document program effectiveness. This Institute will engage you in working with colleagues to develop new knowledge and skills that will enable you to be an effective assessment leader. When you leave the Institute, you will have completed an implementation plan you will be able use at your home institution.

ABET Webinars
The convenience and flexibility of ABET Webinars enable programs to educate a number of faculty members without added travel expenses and maintain consistency of the messages delivered about assessment and accreditation processes. Each 90-minute webinar includes on-screen presentations and multiple opportunities for questions. Topics range from accreditation to assessment.

Commission Summit
The Commission Summit is a special event for deans and institution representatives, which takes place each year at the start of the ABET Annual Meeting in October. This day-long event features a plenary session with all commissions, as well as breakout sessions for each individual commission. The ABET accreditation process is covered in detail during the Commission Summit. Representatives from new programs and programs seeking their initial ABET evaluations are strongly encouraged to attend. Presentations from this event can be found here.

ABET Annual Meeting
The ABET Annual Meeting is an important gathering of educational, governmental, and industrial leaders from the ABET disciplines. The focus changes annually, but always features top-of-mind issues in academe. The Annual Meeting takes place during the last week of October and is held at various locations across North America.

Best Assessment Processes Symposium
Best Assessment Processes Symposium is a working symposium for postsecondary educators in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.  Held each year in April, the symposium features more than 60 sessions and workshops on assessment.

Institutional Representatives’ Day
Institutional Representatives’ Day is an event that takes place each July at the annual ABET Summer Commission Meeting. Institutional representatives from programs about to undergo fall ABET visits are invited to attend Institutional Representatives’ Day. This day-long event allows institutional representatives to meet with their ABET team chairs and to learn about all the ins and outs of the visit process. Contact us for more information.
